Dr. Ricardo Castañón, a Neuropsycophysiologist, with a specialist's understanding of the brain and human behavior has for a number of years been studying people throughout the world who say that Christ or the Virgin Mary have appeared to them. He has also been studying related instances where religious images have wept or bled.

In the video "A Plea to Humanity", he spoke of what happened after a journalist called him to look into this case.  He described witnessing blood coming out of the left eye of the statue and how he took a sample of the blood with a cotton swab. 

The samples being very small, Dr. Castañón  needed to take them to a genetic testing laboratory in the United States for analysis. 

So that it could not be said that knowledge of the origin of the samples may have influenced the outcome of the tests, the Gentest Laboratory agreed to do the tests without being told anything of the history.

In the video, the Gentest scientist described the samples, and  the procedure and methodology of the analysis. After the tests, she stated:  "I would say in a court of law that there is human DNA present in that sample, it was excessively degraded and that it was positive for the presence of blood."

When the Gentest scientist saw the photographs of the statue from which the samples were taken, she exclaimed: "Wow"!
